Bayfield is a charming and friendly town of nearly 1,800 residents, located just 18 miles east of the city of Durango, Colorado in the San Juan Mountains in Southwestern Colorado. Nestled in the Pine River Valley on the banks of the scenic Pine River, Bayfield is just downstream from Vallecito Lake recreational area, and is surrounded by mountains, valleys, and lush plateaus of fertile soil.

The town is a mixture of past and present, with rolling pastures and sprawling ranches, and a growing role in the local atmosphere of the Four-Corners area. The population has grown from 320 residents in the 1970's, to the present population of around 1,800 residents.

Named after William and Laura Bay, who laid out the town in 1898, Bayfield has been a gathering place for the surrounding community of farmers and ranchers since the early 1900's. Bayfield holds dear the small-town feel and friendly atmosphere that has been around for generations. Annual events include The Annual Bayfield Apple Festival in October, an Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration in early December, and Arts & Crafts festivals several times a year to coincide with the seasons.

Culture, recreation, outdoor living, and local history are important elements of the Southwest Colorado lifestyle; Mesa Verde National Park, The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway, Crow Canyon Archaelogical Center, Pagosa Springs Hot Springs Resort, Durango Mountain Resort, and many year-round events in the surrounding communities of Durango, Cortez, Pagosa Springs and Ignacio.
